Special Events at AIWC!

We would like to extend a special invitation to all of our AIWC friends. The Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation is now offering guided tours of the trauma centre to the public. As part of the tour, you will be guided by knowledgeable volunteers through the various stages of care that we offer and will be given a close-up view of some of our patients (a unique opportunity indeed!). There will also be a half-hour presentation featuring the natural history of one of the animals in our care.

Our first guided tour was offered on Sunday August 14, 2005. The feature was the two red fox pups that came to us at 3 weeks of age, and chronicled their progress throughout the summer until their release.

"Be a Shadow" Program

Have you ever wondered what a wild animal looked like up close? Would you like to watch our trauma team in action? Get a first hand look at our trauma centre and work along side our wildlife biologists for a day. Activities on any particular day may vary, depending on the animals in our care. You may even get to ride along on an animal rescue with one of our experienced drivers and possibly hold an animal during examination and treatment.

For more information and to book your shadowing experience, call (403) 946-2361.

The cost is $300 for 6 hours. You will receive a fleece jacket with the AIWC logo and the "Be a Shadow" inscription, as well as an 8x10 photo of you with one of our educational animals as a souvenir of your experience.
